Autel CAN FD Adapter Compatible with Autel VCI work for Maxisys Series Tablets:
The CAN FD Adapter from Autel is designed to connect to compatible vehicle communication interfaces (VCIs) to enable its tablets to communicate via the CAN FD (flexible data-rate) communications protocol and diagnose the vehicle. Vehicles currently using the CAN FD protocol include many General Motors and Ford 2019 and 2020 vehicles. Autel’s MX808, MS905, MS906, MS906BT, MS906TS, MS908, MS908S, MS908P, MS908SP, MSELITE, IM508, and IM608 tablets will be able to diagnose CAN-FD equipped vehicles when the adapter is plugged into the VCI directly as in the case of the smaller VCI units or into the OBD-II cable that is connected to the larger VCIs and into the vehicle’s OBD-II port
Autel CAN FD Adapter Features:
1- Enables the Diagnostics of Vehicles Using the CAN FD Protocol

What You Should Know About Autel Can FD Adapter:
- Autel has just released a CAN FD Adapter that connects to compatible Vehicle Communication Interfaces (VCIs) to enable its tablets to communicate via the CAN FD communications protocol and diagnose the vehicle.
- Vehicles currently using this faster CAN FD (CAN Flexible Data-Rate) protocol include many GM and Ford's 2019 and 2020 vehicles. Autel U.S. says CAN FD is one of the newer communication protocols, noted for being faster, more reliable and more secure.
- Autel’s MX808, MS905, MS906, MS906BT, MS906TS, MS908, MS908S, MS908P, MS908SP, MSELITE, IM508, IM608 tablets will be able to diagnose CAN-FD equipped vehicles when the adapter is plugged into the VCI directly as in the case of the smaller VCI units or into the OBDII cable that is connected to the larger VCIs and into the vehicle’s OBDII port.
- Autel’s latest MaxiSYS tablet releases, the MaxiSYS Ultra, MaxiSYS 919 and MaxiSYS 909 do not need Can FD Adapter to communicate CAN FD-equipped vehicles as these new tablets come with enhanced VCIs that include many of the new protocols including CAN FD
How to Use Autel Can FD Adapter:
Here’s how to use the Autel CAN FD Adapter:
1. Check Compatibility
- Make sure your Autel scanner is compatible with the CAN FD Adapter. Some models like the Autel MaxiSys Elite, MS908S Pro, and other high-end scanners support CAN FD with the adapter.
2. Update Your Scanner
- Before using the CAN FD Adapter, ensure that your scanner has the latest software version. Connect your scanner to Wi-Fi and download the latest updates from the Autel software update menu.
3. Connect the CAN FD Adapter
- Locate the OBD-II port in the vehicle (usually under the dashboard on the driver’s side).
- Plug the Autel CAN FD Adapter into the OBD-II port.
- Plug the other end of the CAN FD Adapter into your diagnostic scanner or its VCI (Vehicle Communication Interface) module.
4. Select the Vehicle
- Power on the scanner and select the vehicle model and year. The CAN FD protocol is typically used in newer vehicles, especially GM models.
- Your scanner should automatically detect the use of the CAN FD Adapter and establish communication.
5. Run Diagnostics
- Proceed with the diagnostic functions (read trouble codes, perform module coding, data logging, etc.) as usual. The CAN FD Adapter facilitates communication between the scanner and the vehicle’s advanced communication networks.
6. Remove the Adapter
- Once you’re done, power off the scanner, unplug the CAN FD Adapter from the vehicle’s OBD-II port, and store it safely for future use.
